Unfamiliar electrocardiograms cannot be worked out unless one has a modicum of knowledge of the basic electrophysiology and thereby the forces responsible for such patterns. The purpose of the three tutorials in this series is to present the basic electrophysiological concepts underlying various patterns relevant to clinical problems. In this tutorial, the cardiac vector, its deviation from normal, and the patterns of various chamber enlargements are discussed.
